GRT Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Oracle Application Database Administrator with a focus on performance tuning to manage and optimize mission-critical Oracle databases (11g–19c). In this remote role, you'll partner with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to fine-tune PL/SQL and SQL, analyze AWR/ASH reports, and automate core database operations. Your expertise will ensure high availability, low-latency, and resilient data services for enterprise applications. You’ll also profile and refactor large PL/SQL packages to drive system-wide performance improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Performance Tuning & Diagnostics
- Trace and optimize PL/SQL call stacks using tools like DBMS_PROFILER, SQL Trace, and TKPROF.
- Analyze AWR/ASH reports and execution plans to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
- Recommend schema redesigns, indexing strategies, and in-memory/partitioning options to sustain performance.
Core Database Administration
- Manage RMAN backups/restores, patching, and version upgrades.
- Ensure database security hardening and support HA/DR solutions (Data Guard, RAC, Flashback).
PL/SQL Optimization
- Profile and refactor performance-intensive PL/SQL logic, targeting calls exceeding 1s or 5% CPU utilization.
- Mentor development teams on efficient SQL, bulk-collect, and exception-handling patterns.
Database Architecture & Design
- Collaborate with architects on storage planning, data modeling, and growth strategies.
- Evaluate features like Advanced Compression and in-memory for enterprise-grade scalability.
Capacity Planning & Monitoring
- Monitor system health, track trends in resource usage, and optimize alerting systems for early intervention.
Incident Management
- Act as the go-to expert for production issues involving PL/SQL failures, contention, or replication lag.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable fixes.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and tuning guidelines.
- Lead knowledge transfer sessions across DBA, DevOps, and development teams.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years as an Oracle DBA (versions 11g–19c), with a strong track record of leading performance optimization projects.
- Deep expertise in AWR/ASH, OEM, SQL Plan Management, indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies.
- Proficient in RMAN, RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and Oracle security standards.
- Advanced PL/SQL skills including debugging, profiling, bulk operations, and pipelined functions.
- Hands-on scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation.
- Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to explain complex issues to non-technical audiences.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with APM tools such as New Relic or Dynatrace to correlate SQL wait events with application traces.
- Exposure to Exadata, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), or other cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Ansible, Terraform), and DevOps workflows.
- Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL systems in mixed-database environments.
